Research can take many forms, and varies greatly in its focus, quality and uptake. What is common to all research is systematic investigation, critical analysis, and public scrutiny and dissemination of results.

At present, there are many open questions about what a research-informed education system should look like and how we might get there. What is clear is that a research-informed education system will be one in which researchers, teachers, school leaders, policy-makers and other educators are well-connected, and therefore able to work together to generate, examine, exchange and apply ideas.
